Kooka Kleen vs the Cheapest Oven Cleaners
This post from Dave is really directed at any new Kooka Kleen Customers that come our way. Dave just wanted to show you the difference between a well established professional cooker cleaning service and the kind of service you get from cheap cleaners.
Dave is going to show you how poles apart Kooka Kleen is with the cheapest so called oven cleaners. He generally refers to them as “wipe and go merchants” and they deliberately undercut everyone else on price to try and get the most work. Remember quantity and the lowest cost does not equal quality and the old saying “but cheap is, what cheap gets” is 99% of the time true. So in Dave’s own words:
I have been told by my customers, about events where they have had someone in, and they are there 30 to 45 mins, and they only wipe out your oven! If challenged they say “Oh! its more money to clean the door or the grill pan, or the fan, or the front panel”. They have every excuse not to, rather than do what’s required.
Other trick’s are they only clean what you can see – they don’t clean the roof of the oven, roof of the top oven, the grill pan, under side of the racks, the inner glass door, the backplate, the fan, compartments under oven, behind self-cleaning plates, which always seem to stay in place – not removed like they should be.
Some are cheap to do a single oven clean but then very expensive to do a range!? this is arguably because they do not have the skill required to tackle a range and as a consequence list a higher price to reflect this lacking, in the hope they don’t get commissioned.
I have been told by several customers that one chap turned up with a can of Spray-On foam cleaner in his back pocket and a couple of rags in the other, and that was it!! He arrived and left on foot.
Another “oven cleaner” had a basic oven cleaning kit purchased from the supermarket – he put the racks in a bag at the end of the clean, after he had just wiped around the inside of the oven, and said to the customer “take the racks out of bag in the morning and wash under the tap” – he was there less than 25 mins!
Another cooker cleaning cowboy asked a customer where the bathroom was. The customer thought she heard taps running, the cleaner went outside, when she checked the bathroom he had mixed up some solution and the racks were in the bathtub in a brown liquid!
One customer asked a cleaner: “can you do the inside of the glass door please?” – the reply was “no I can’t, I haven’t got a screwdriver”! and another cleaner stated: “Do you have a dishwasher? Ah Good – put the filter’s from the extractor in there, and I’ll wipe the rest” and called that an extractor clean!
One customer had a cowboy arrive after getting a quote and the “cleaner” said its the worst oven he had ever seen. This didn’t faze the customer as she was the landlady and it was the tenant’s used oven. Said “cleaner” demanded an extra £30 on top of quoted price, she refused and he then became curt and rude. Unbeknownst to him, the landlady’s husband was upstairs and this unprofessional person was asked to leave on quite short notice! I know this because I later got the job, I went in and got on with it – finding it wasn’t the worst ever and I did the job at our listed price on our Kooka Kleen web site.
When I first started, I used to worry a little about my competitors but as you can see there is very little competition. In fact some of my customers were the cowboy’s customers until they lost them to Kooka Kleen. Don’t get me wrong there are some very good oven cleaners out there and I wish them good luck. They like me, wish to promote what a good service we all provide.
I had a customer recently say I was expensive. She called me again later as she wanted to change the day of the oven clean. She was confused as to who she had commissioned to do the job as she had rang round every oven cleaner to get the cheapest deal.
The customer thought I was another oven cleaning service and that I was expensive as I was going to charge £5 more for the work. An expensive mistake for the sake of less than £5.00 as she was certain I was one of the “cleaners” mentioned above. If she had gone ahead she would have been £5 out of pocket and would have been given an inferior service. As it was she realised I was part of Kooka Kleen and I carried out a deep and thorough clean and did all that can be done on an oven to give her an appliance she was proud of.
